Observations: A Nationally Notable (Nb) moth, with scattered UK distribution. Larvae
feed on mosses and lichens, said to prefer ancient woodland, but also gardens with mature apple trees. Adults more easily identified from its congeners due
to the high-contrast black and white pattern on the forewings and prominent discal blotch. The first VC32 record was of an individual to a garden light trap - pictured opposite.
